Subject: Request for info: MSE programs
We are contemplating a Masters of Software Engineering in the
state of Oregon. The MSE degree would involve all four research
institutes in the state. I'd like to hear from anyone who has
experience in an existing MSE program, either in administering,
teaching or as a student.

Subject: Request for info: Systems Engineering Training
I was a member of the IEEE CBSE task force and still remain on their
mailing list. I also receive the IEEE Software Engineering Technical
Council Newsletter where I located your education news section. I am
presently an active technical member on the American Institute of
Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Systems Engineering Technical
Committee (SETC). We have an Education/Dissemination subcommittee
responsible with the collection and generation of systems engineering
training and teaching material within the AIAA TCs. We also are working
with our software TC to address the educational needs for training
system engineers (ranging from grade school to advanced college degree
training).
Our committee members have positions on IEEE, INOCSE, and SAE committees
in software and systems engineering. I would like to ask you if you
would have any technical papers that address systems engineering aspects
of software engineering that might shed some new light on the direction
of new training techniques/approaches. I would deeply appreciate any
list of authors or papers that might have good educational ideas. We
would like to share some of our experiences with your group in the
future.

Subject: CFP: Australasian Conference on Computer Science Education
1st Australasian Conference on Computer Science Education
Call for Papers
The First Australasian Conference on Computer Science Education will be
held at Sydney, Australia, on July 3-5 1996. The conference solicits
submissions which describe innovations in teaching computer science,
information systems, and information technology, at all post-secondary
levels.
Typical subjects include
* new course content,
* new curriculum structure,
* new methods of instruction,
* new methods of assessment,
* new tools to aid in teaching or learning,
* and new results evaluating alternative approaches.
These innovations may be in the context of formal courses or
self-directed learning; they may involve introductory programming,
service courses, specialist undergraduate or even postgraduate topics.
The ACM SIGCSE conference provides a model for the style of paper, and
ACM recognition is being sought for this event. Also we particularly
welcome work directed at issues of local importance (eg quality
management in teaching, teaching for indigenous people, attracting and
retaining female students, articulation between vocational and
university education). The program committee will select the papers to
appear, based on their potential to enhance learning outcomes in CS, IS
and IT courses at universities in the Australasian region.
Submission deadline is April 1 1995.

Subject: Conference on Integrating Technology into Computer Science Education
Barcelona, Spain
June 2 - 6, 1996
This conference is a first in several ways - the first collaboration
between SIGCSE (Computer Science Education) and SIGCUE (Computer Uses in
Education). It is also the first venture outside North America for both
SIGs. The response has been gratifying and we have great expectations
for the exchange of ideas and experiences at this truly international
meeting.
The format of this meeting is somewhat unusual and needs explanation:
there are two distinct, but intertwined events here. First, there is a
conference. It begins with a reception on the evening of Sunday, 2 June
1996 and concludes Wednesday evening. In addition, 5 groups of 10 people
will meet in working groups to produce concrete recommendations on the
topic of technology in computer science education. Their work will be
presented to the conference attendees for feedback and discussion on two
occasions: Monday afternoon and Wednesday afternoon. Each presentation
of working group status will occur during a reception that will include
wine and tapas, a casual atmosphere in which people will gather in
interest groups to comment on what the working groups have accomplished
and make suggestions to strengthen their reports. The working group
reports will be published promptly after the conference and will be
widely distributed.

Subject: CFP : 7th european workshop on next generation of case tools
CALL FOR PAPERS
THE 7TH EUROPEAN WORKSHOP ON NEXT GENERATION OF CASE TOOLS
(NGCT'96)
20-21 May, 1996
Crete, Greece
The Next Generation of CASE Tools (NGCT) workshop brings together
leading researchers on Computer Aided Software Engineering. The first
six workshops held at Noordwijkerhout, the Netherlands; Trondheim,
Norway; Manchester, UK; Paris, France; Utrecht, The Netherlands and
Jyvaskyla, Finland were attended by 25-30 researchers, and have laid the
groundwork for continuing exchange and integration of research ideas in
this area. The 7th workshop will consolidate and expand this exchange of
ideas into active development of the agenda for CASE research.
Attendance at the workshop will be limited to 25 delegates to promote
effective discussion and exchange of ideas in a small group. The
programme has been arranged to encourage informal exchange of ideas.
Submission deadline: March 15th 1996

Subject: CFP: Workshop on Software Configuration Management
The sixth international workshop on software configuration management
will be held in Berlin on March 25-26, 1996 in conjunction with ICSE'18.
The theme of the workshop will be *dissemination* where researchers will
discuss advanced research and practitioners will bring their experience
of SCM and their CM problems to the meeting.
We don't want the workshop to be a mini-conference where we spend all
our time listening to papers presented by participants. Rather, we will
ask a selected number of participants to present their work as an
introduction to discussion sessions where, we hope, everyone will give
their views on the issues covered.
To help with this objective of dissemination, all those wishing to
attend the workshop should submit, by 16th March, a 1-2 page position
paper discussing either their CM problems, their practical experiences
or their work in this area. This should be submitted on paper or
electronically in either ASCII or Postscript to Ian.

Call for Papers
Second IEEE International Conference on
Engineering of Complex Computer Systems
Held jointly with 6th CSESAW, 4th IEEE RTAW
Montreal, Quebec, Canada, October 21-25, 1996
Complex computer systems are becoming common in many sectors, such as
manufacturing, communications, defense, transportation, aerospace, hazardous
environments, energy, and health care.
These systems frequently include distributed, heterogeneous networks, and are
driven by requirements on performance, real-time behavior, fault tolerance,
security, adaptability, development time and cost, long life concerns, and
other areas. Such requirements frequently conflict, and satisfaction of these
requirements requires managing the tradeoffs among them during system
development and throughout the entire system life.
The goal of this conference is to bring together industrial, academic, and
government experts from these various disciplines, to determine how the
disciplines' problems and solution techniques interact within the whole
system.
Researchers, practitioners, tool developers and users, and technology
transition experts are all welcome. Long-term research, near-term complex
system requirements and promising tools, and existing complex systems and
commercially available tools will be examined on a level playing field.
Deadline for submissions is by April 15th, 1996.
