Dr. Mengel joined the Computer Science Department in August 1996. She is actively engaged in reasearch in the following areas: data mining, swarm intelligence, interaction design, and computer science education.  She currently serves as the Associate Editor for Computing for the IEEE Transactions on Education.  She has served on the IEEE Computer Society Board of Governors and on the Steering Committee for the IEEE-CS/ACM Computing Curriculum 2001.
