Reminder:  Only courses in which a student has earned a C or better count toward the degree in Computer Science (CS). Course substitutions are not allowed, students must follow their degree plan.

Computer Science students must take a Math Placement Exam (MPE) before they can enroll in Calculus I, unless they have AP, CLEP or SAT scores that exempt them. A MPE score of 7 is required to get into Calculus I. Calculus I is a direct or indirect prerequiste for a number of the course in CS therefore it is important to take the math courses as early as possible.

Computer Science students must have a lab science course in their degree plan, either CHEM 1307 or BIOL 1403 can be taken to meet this requirement. Although listed as a freshman course this course is not a prerequisite to any other courses in the CS degree plan therefore it can be taken at any time during the program.

Any CS freshman planning to take BIOL 1403 should be aware that it is not an introductory course, students taking BIOL 1403 should have successfully completed at least one year of high school or college biology. Enrollment as a freshman requires either a minimum SAT score of 1100, or a minimum composite ACT score of 24 or a minimum score of 5 on the AP Biology Test.

Any CS freshman planning to take CHEM 1307 must take the Chemistry Placement exam. Contact the Chemistry Department for the time and place of the exam. This exam can be taken only once, students that fail or skip the exam must take CHEM 1301 before they can enroll in CHEM 1307. Students taking CHEM 1301 must earn a grade of C or better before they can enroll in CHEM 1307.
